What do you love about diving on wrecks?

I get asked this question a lot, having taken some time to really think about it, I guess there

are a few reasons.

The main reason I love wreck diving is because every wreck has a history, a story of why it is there. Sometimes these stories could be a good one, like the wreck has lived its life and has now been sunk on purpose so it can become an artificial reef, so now the wrecks story is living on, becoming a home and a tourist attraction.

Sadly many wrecks have a much sadder story, Sun in tragic accidents such as MV Salem

Express, a ferry in the Red Sea, sunk in the early hours of the night with the loss of many lives. For me when I dove this site I was in two minds could I go inside the wreck? Yes if I wanted too, did I want too? NO! Such a sad story. #wreckdiver #wreckdiving

The photo's on this #blog are me diving in the Red Sea, on several different wrecks including one of my favorites, the SS Thistlegorm - An amazing treasure trove from the second world war, that again was sunk in a tragic way.

Another reason I love wreck diving is because there is always something new

to be discovered and talked about afterwards, did you see…. I wonder what

that was used for.

It’s an opportunity too, you get a chance to practise some skills, like different

kick cycles, hoovering, buoyancy control and the main skill I practise is my

camera skills. Getting ‘that’ shot and thinking wow I really like that, putting

‘that’ shot on social media and getting other divers comment on it, or dare I

say it, getting the non-divers wanting to try diving out by taking a #DiscoverScuba, then its 100% a win.

To penetrate safely I recoomend you take the Wreck Diver Speciality with #bespokescubadiving - Its one of my favourites to teach!

But for those other skills I mentioned - Why not take a Peak Performance Buoyancy and a Digital Underwater Photograhy Speciality too!

I think wreck diving is the best and I love it! When its briefing time on a #liveaboard ‘it’s a

wreck dive’. I get excitied! - You get the best of both worlds, marine life all around the wreck and a story of what you’re going to see, and I believe you become part of the story

too.
